Trivial bits

from Dungeon, Fire, & Sword: The Knights Templar in the Crusades by John J. Robinson

The Crusaders and Knights Templar gave to Europe:

  • candy which was made from boiled sugar lumps called al-Kandiq

  • muslin which came from Mosul

  • gauze which came from Gaza

  • Morris Dancers which was an attempt to train peasant soldiers to fight as a unit instead of a mob because the Crusaders believed the Moors could fight so well because they danced together
