Not at the ol' homestead

I have been recruited to babysit my parents through various medical issues. I've been with them for the last two weeks and I'll be here at least another two. They don't have an internet connection and my service provider no longer provides dial up so I've had to drag myself into town to Starbuck's so I can take advantage of the free WiFi connection. The folks are doing as well as can be expected and the Prodigal Son has been left at the ol' homestead to tend the cats. So far, none of the cats have called to complain about being neglected.

Vet scare

Whether you call it FUS, FLUTD or FIC, Horus has it. And it only cost $230 to find this out. At 8:30 this morning. After being worried sick all night 'cause Horus was such a miserable cat yesterday.

But he did enjoy his trip to the vet's office. Didn't much care for the ride there and back, but he liked the vet and his assistant, and he just loved the exam table. Rubbed and drooled all over it. He also didn't raise much of a fuss about having his temperature taken - just gave a startled, annoyed rrrowl and then laid still while the assistant held him and the vet talked to him. He also wasn't bothered with getting two shots. He was only mildly put off by the vet squeezing on his bladder to make urine come out so they could see if there was an actual blockage and to run tests on it. And he was perfectly content to lay on the chair in the waiting area while I dealt with the bill, etc.

He was definitely feeling better this morning than he felt last night. He was so much more his normal self that I almost didn't take him in after calling at 8 a.m. to get him an appointment.

Oh, in case you're interested, the little brute weighs 13 lbs 15 ozs.

I thought it was Friday...

Spent the afternoon at the movies. Yes, I watched Star Trek again - 9th time - but I had to after watching Terminator Salvation. Have to agree with everyone whose comments I've seen that Terminator is an OK movie but nothing to write home about. For the most part, I liked it well enough except I really hated the end. It was so trite - ordinary - predictable.

Angels & Demons . . . not

I had every intention of watching this film when I went to the theatre this afternoon, but, when I got there, I found myself asking for a Star Trek ticket instead. And after I finished watching Trek for a sixth time, I went back and watched it for a seventh. I think it's safe to say that I like this movie.

It took seven viewings but I actually like Kirk. He's grown on me.

Star Trek . . . one more time

I watched it a fifth time today. Still love it.

And yes, it was Vadar who was assigned to the Hood.

Star Trek . . . again

Yes, folks, I watched it a fourth time today. Just can't get enough of it. Even Kirk is growing on me. Seriously. I actually kind of almost sort of like him . . . kind of . . . maybe.

Got a question about the movie . . . Was that Vadar who was assigned to the USS Hood? (I think it was the Hood, but I'm not sure.)

Actually, I had an ulterior motive for watching the film again today. I have a friend who commented in an email that she didn't know if she could accept Quinto as Spock since he plays the especially creep worthy Sylar on Heroes. I'd never watched Heroes so I had no point of reference for her concern. So I did the only reasonable thing. I watched season 3 of Heroes on Hulu.com. I now have a point of reference and her concern is . . . well, it isn't one I would have had. If Quinto has the chops to pull off Sylar, he can certainly play Spock. And he does them both exceptionally well. I think I may have a new favorite actor to add to my ever growing list.

FOXNews.com | Secret Message Found In Lincoln Pocket Watch

WASHINGTON — For nearly 150 years, a story has circulated about a hidden Civil War message engraved inside Abraham Lincoln's pocket watch. On Tuesday, museum curators confirmed it was true. A watchmaker used tiny tools to carefully pry open the antique watch at the National Museum of American History, and a descendant of the engraver read aloud the message from a metal plate underneath the watch face.

If I were a band . . .

New meme: here's a totally random way to make your new random band's new random album and cover.

Go to “Wikipedia.” Hit “random” and the first article you get is the name of your band.

Go to “Random Quotations” and the last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album. (Go ahead and hit the button at the bottom. It doesn't seem to refresh when you get on initially.)

Go to Flickr and click on “Explore the Last Seven Days” and the third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Just a quick update

My doctor has taken me off my medications because they are interfering with my liver. I've been off the one since September and the other since November. Needless to say, the psoriasis is back with a vengeance and the arthritis has decided to settle in my hands - which is good since it isn't anywhere else in my body, but it's bad because, well, it's in my hands. I can't do much of anything with these iffy hands. Today is actually a good day. I can turn the doorknob without help and I can type - hence this post. But what I would really like to do is knit and I just don't think my hands would put up with that. Oh, well. Life goes on. I'm just trailing a little behind it right now.
