Everyone seems to be jumping on the blog bandwagon so I thought I'd give it a go as well. Haven't really got a clue what I'm going to talk about, but that's never really stopped me from saying something, so . . .

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This is an urban fantasy about a 2000+ year old Druid, Atticus O'Sullivan (not his real name but the one he uses), who lives in Tempe, Arizona with his Irish wolfhound, Oberon, and runs a new age bookstore/tea shop. He has a vampire for his nighttime lawyer and a werewolf for his daytime attorney. He dislikes and distrusts witches, and he mixes it up with deities from the Celtic pantheon, one of whom summons the horseman Death from the Christian Hell who basically does nothing but giggle and drag someone to Hell.
Not what I would call epic fantasy, but a quick and fun read. It makes for an enjoyable diversion.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I enjoyed the book tremendously. It is a little more earthy than Williams' more recent books, including colorful expletives to highlight moments of tension and a couple of adult scenes to establish the power and significance of a relationship.
In simplest terms, the book is an urban fantasy about angels and demons who advocate, each for their own side, for the souls of the dead, and what happens when a soul disappears and a demon advocate is killed and an angel advocate becomes curious about those events.
This is the first book of a new series. Although most of the questions that come up in the course of this story are answered by the end of the book, there is one question, in two parts, that is left unanswered, and it is that question, I think, which will tie the series together.

Not at the ol' homestead
I have been recruited to babysit my parents through various medical issues. I've been with them for the last two weeks and I'll be here at least another two. They don't have an internet connection and my service provider no longer provides dial up so I've had to drag myself into town to Starbuck's so I can take advantage of the free WiFi connection. The folks are doing as well as can be expected and the Prodigal Son has been left at the ol' homestead to tend the cats. So far, none of the cats have called to complain about being neglected.

Vet scare
Whether you call it FUS, FLUTD or FIC, Horus has it. And it only cost $230 to find this out. At 8:30 this morning. After being worried sick all night 'cause Horus was such a miserable cat yesterday.
But he did enjoy his trip to the vet's office. Didn't much care for the ride there and back, but he liked the vet and his assistant, and he just loved the exam table. Rubbed and drooled all over it. He also didn't raise much of a fuss about having his temperature taken - just gave a startled, annoyed rrrowl and then laid still while the assistant held him and the vet talked to him. He also wasn't bothered with getting two shots. He was only mildly put off by the vet squeezing on his bladder to make urine come out so they could see if there was an actual blockage and to run tests on it. And he was perfectly content to lay on the chair in the waiting area while I dealt with the bill, etc.
He was definitely feeling better this morning than he felt last night. He was so much more his normal self that I almost didn't take him in after calling at 8 a.m. to get him an appointment.
Oh, in case you're interested, the little brute weighs 13 lbs 15 ozs.
